As part of the EdUTeam educational and research project in game-oriented learning at IAE Paris-Est at the Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC), physical and digital games are employed in various educational activities (classes, tutored projects, etc.). Their common features are their intercreative capacity and strong agency, allowing learners to co-construct a story based on initial plot elements provided by teachers.

Among the games used are tabletop role-playing games (RPG). These are used in language teaching and are starting to be implemented in other types of courses, such as management and creativity. This Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) links management research and innovative pedagogy.

The objective is to participate in the 2026 Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC) Scenario Creation Contest (in partnership with American publisher Goodman Games). Participants will then be asked to write a summary note for their team, imagining how their scenarios could be used in university teaching, particularly in management courses.

Programme

The BIP offers two videoconference sessions and a set of tasks to be completed prior to the in-person week (study of scientific articles and physical role-playing). It is also mandatory to participate in the 2026 DCC Scenario Creation Contest as part of an international team.

Online lectures:

  • 3 February 2026 at 17:00 – 19:00 (CET)
  • 17 February 2026 at 17:00 – 19:00 (CET)

Before 6 March 2026, each team must submit the RPG-based teaching resource designed, as well as the scenarios for the DCC competition.

On 13 May 2026, an Online Game Evolution international symposium will be held, including an announcement of the results of the DCC competition.

Targeted for Bachelor students in their third year and/or Master students, this BIP offers 6 ECTS. It responds to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG 4. Quality Education and SDG 10. Reduces Inequalities.
