Social Entrepreneurship & Innovation

seizmic is where social entrepreneurship skills grow

Social entrepreneurship is the discovery and sustainable use of opportunities to create innovative business models that address urgent social and environmental challenges. Social entrepreneurs transform problems into resources, reshaping markets and systems to generate public value. As an “essentially contested concept” (Choi and Majumdar, 2014), it includes launching social enterprises and guiding industries toward sustainability.

The seizmic Initiative

seizmic, powered by Aurora, strengthens students’ understanding of social entrepreneurship by linking academic learning with real-world innovation. seizmic courses cover the theory of change, social impact measurement, and hybrid organizations, combining theory with practical tools for designing sustainable ventures.

Skills and Measurement

The seizmic competencies framework identifies essential skills for addressing societal challenges through innovation. Aligned with the Aurora Competence Framework, it structures the development and assessment of entrepreneurial capabilities. A multilingual survey enables institutions to measure progress in these areas.

Hands-On Learning

The seizmic APP connects learning to action by guiding student teams in creating socially impactful business models. Outstanding projects are recognized annually at the seizmic awards.

The seizmic MSCA Doctoral Network

This network trains doctoral candidates, linking academia, policymakers, and practitioners to advance social innovation across Europe through shared research and education.

Educational Offer

seizmic equips students with the skills and mindset to address key societal challenges through social entrepreneurship and innovation. It assesses learning outcomes for courses, programmes, and degrees at three levels of societal impact, social engagement, and entrepreneurship.

Opportunities

Nurturing ‘seizmic’ Change: BIP for Social Entrepreneurship Educators.

This Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) is designed for educators and curriculum designers who are already teaching in the fields of social entrepreneurship, sustainability innovation, or business modelling.

Research

Aurora is committed to research with societal impact. Through the seizmic MSCA DN project co-funded by the European Union, researchers are able to close the gap between replicable social entrepreneurship models that work and the societal challenges these are meant to address.
