Aurora is delighted to welcome Professor Andrea Mazzucchi as the new rector of the University of Naples Federico II. As he prepares to lead the university for a six-year term (2026–2032), Professor Mazzucchi will also join the Aurora General Council in the second half of 2026.
In the Aurora General Council, Professor Mazzucchi will succeed Professor Matteo Lorito, who served as rector of UNINA from 2020 to 2026. Therefore, Aurora expresses its sincere appreciation to Professor Lorito for his dedicated contribution and looks forward to a new chapter of collaboration with Professor Mazzucchi.
About Professor Andrea Mazzucchi
Professor Mazzucchi, Full Professor of Italian Philology at the University of Naples Federico II, is internationally recognised for his scholarship on Dante Alighieri and medieval Italian literature, with over 300 publications. He has held leading roles in national and international academic societies, including the presidency of the Italian Society of Philologists of Italian Literature (SFLI), vice-presidency of the Centro Pio Rajna, and membership on the Board of the Casa di Dante in Rome. He is also active on editorial and scientific committees, and is a Corresponding Fellow of the Accademia della Crusca.
At the university, Professor Mazzucchi has served on the Academic Senate, presided over the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and, since 2021, has led the Department of Humanities, prior to his election as Rector. He coordinates the PhD programme “Texts, Traditions and Cultures of the Book” at the Scuola Superiore Meridionale and directs the Advanced School in the History and Philology of Manuscripts and Early Printed Books at the Biblioteca dei Girolamini, a joint initiative with the Italian Ministry of Culture.
