Aims of the Programme The course aims to provide students with an interdisciplinary understanding of Austria’s historical development, cultural identity, and its role within Europe and the wider world. It encourages critical reflection on national identity, cultural transfer, and contemporary social and political challenges through both academic study and experiential learning. Content & Methods The programme combines online lectures with an intensive on-site week featuring excursions to cultural and historical sites, interactive seminars, group discussions, collaborative projects, and reflective assignments. Key Topics Students explore Austrian history, politics, culture, and identity, with a special focus on Tyrol. Topics include imagined communities, tourism and regional identity, postcolonial migration perspectives, and memory politics, folklore, European integration, and symbolic representations of Austria in literature, film, media, and the arts.
