Clean Room and Mass Spectrometry Laboratories

Description

Clean room equipped with an air conditioning and filtering device able to filter out dust particles. The laboratory includes an ISO 6 class room and an ISO 5 class room, each hosting a Perspex laminar flow hood equipped with two H13 class HEPA filters for sample preparation in a very clean environment. PFA coated hot plates placed in the laminar flow hoods allow performing acid attacks and evaporation of samples. Several chromatographic columns are available for the isolation of variable cations from either inorganic or organic samples, to be analyzed for isotopic composition.
Multicollector solid-source thermal ionization mass spectrometer Triton Plus by Thermo Scientific, equipped with nine ion collectors. The multicollector array includes one fixed Faraday cup/Secondary Electron Multiplier and eight adjustable Faraday cups. The instrument can determine the isotopic composition of a variety of chemical elements from Li to U, provided that the material is a stable solid compound, with high precision and accuracy. Stable, radioactive and radiogenic isotopes can be analyzed in both inorganic and organic samples.
